Privacy Policy
Zakat Simple (“we,” “us,” “our”) provides a tool to help Muslims calculate their annual Zakāt, track their giving, and learn about the rulings. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We have built the app to collect as little as possible.
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to the Zakat Simple website and apps at zakatsimple.com (and related domains) and to anyone who uses them, whether as a guest or with an account.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address (and, if you sign in with Google, your name and email as provided by Google) to authenticate you and save your data.
- Information you enter. The financial figures you enter to calculate your Zakāt, your niṣāb date, your donation log, and any receipt images you choose to upload. This information is stored in your account so it is available across your devices.
- Guest mode. If you use the app without an account, your calculations are stored only in your browser on your device (local storage) and are not sent to our servers until you choose to create an account.
- Technical information. Our hosting and infrastructure providers process standard technical data (such as IP address and request logs) needed to operate and secure the service. We do not use this for advertising or tracking.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the calculator, save your figures, and show your results across sessions and devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the service.
- To respond to you if you contact us for support.
We do not sell your information, show you advertising, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.
4. How your information is stored and protected
Your account data is stored with our database and authentication provider and is protected by per-user access controls, so that only your account can read your data. Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
5. Service providers we use
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the service:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and storage of your account data and receipt images.
- Netlify — website and app hosting.
- Google — only if you choose “Sign in with Google,” to verify your identity. We receive your name and email; we do not receive your Google password.
- Market price sources (e.g. gold-api.com and frankfurter.app) — used to fetch public gold/silver prices and exchange rates for the niṣāb. These requests do not include any of your personal information.
6. Data retention and your choices
- You can edit or delete the figures and donations you enter at any time within the app.
- You can export your data from the app at any time.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (see below). Guest-mode data can be cleared by clearing your browser storage.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or Australia’s Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area: we process your information on the basis of performing our service for you (running your account and calculations) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. You additionally have the rights to data portability (a copy of your data in a usable format — the app’s export feature provides this), to restrict or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it.
8. Children’s privacy
Zakat Simple is intended for adults managing their own (and their household’s) Zakāt. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Where the app lets you calculate Zakāt for a household member, that information is entered and controlled by the adult account holder.
9. International users
The app is designed for users in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Your information may be processed and stored by our providers in data centres located outside your country (including the United States). Where required — for example for transfers of UK or EEA data — our providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. By using the app, you consent to this transfer where permitted by law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be reflected within the app or on this page.
11. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at nabeeli.biz@gmail.com.
