Zakat Simple

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Zakat Simple (“we,” “us,” “our”) provides a tool to help Muslims calculate their annual Zakāt, track their giving, and learn about the rulings. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We have built the app to collect as little as possible.

1. Who this applies to

This policy applies to the Zakat Simple website and apps at zakatsimple.com (and related domains) and to anyone who uses them.

2. Information we collect

3. How we use your information

We do not sell your information, show you advertising, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.

4. How your information is stored and protected

You choose how your Zakāt data is handled at the moment you first save a calculation, before any account exists. The two options are:

Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest by our storage provider. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Backups & your data. So your records aren’t lost: on the mobile apps, your data may be included in your device’s normal operating-system backup (Android Auto Backup / Google Drive on Android; iCloud device backup on iOS), depending on your device’s own settings. That backup is handled by your device, not by us, and we cannot read it. How strongly it is protected is set by Apple or Google rather than by us: on Android 9 and later these backups are end-to-end encrypted with your device credential, while on iOS that requires Advanced Data Protection to be switched on. You can also download a manual backup file at any time and keep it wherever you like (Google Drive, iCloud, email). If you sync, we additionally keep a short server-side version history (the last several saved versions) so you can restore an earlier one; that history lives in the same protected database and is deleted when you delete your account.

5. Service providers we use

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the service:

6. Data retention and your choices

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or Australia’s Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time, from inside the app (Settings → Delete my account) or via our public deletion page at zakatsimple.com/delete-account, which also explains how to request deletion by email without signing in.

One thing is kept, and only in part: if you have written to us for support, we keep the message itself so our record of a conversation is not one-sided, but your email address is removed from it when you delete your account. Support messages you sent while signed out are not linked to your account, so tell us the address you used if you want those removed too.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area: we process your information on the basis of performing our service for you (running your account and calculations) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. You additionally have the rights to data portability (a copy of your data in a usable format, the app’s export feature provides this), to restrict or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority, in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it.

8. Children’s privacy

Zakat Simple is intended for adults managing their own (and their household’s) Zakāt. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Where the app lets you calculate Zakāt for a household member, that information is entered and controlled by the adult account holder.

9. International users

The app is designed for users in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Your information may be processed and stored by our providers in data centres located outside your country (including the United States). Where required, for example for transfers of UK or EEA data, our providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. By using the app, you consent to this transfer where permitted by law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be reflected within the app or on this page.

11. Contact us

If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at nabeeli.biz@gmail.com.
